We are seeking our next Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Emergency & Critical Care. LSU has two open clinical- or tenure-track faculty positions for Emergency and Critical Care specialists to join our current team of two ECC faculty members, three ECC residents, two mixed specialty interns, 8 rotating interns, and full-time ER and ICU nurses. The ECC service is poised for continued growth with the addition of several supporting positions. Recent hospital expansions and renovations have provided a new, dedicated companion animal ER space with brand-new equipment to allow for independent functionality. Additional faculty will be necessary to smoothly and consistently provide state-of-the-art advanced care in our intensive care unit, such as mechanical ventilation, and to begin offering dialysis services.
LSU has a wide variety of advanced monitoring and treatment tools, such as electronic treatment sheet software (Instinct), four oxygen cages, high flow nasal oxygen, Puritan Bennett (840) mechanical ventilator, continuous ECG monitoring, and Prismaflex system for renal replacement therapy, as well as all the standard monitoring tools (oscillometric and doppler blood pressure equipment, pulse oximeter, capnometer, invasive blood pressure).
Clinical Track Position Requirements 70% - Provide clinical expertise and deliver emergency and critical care services for all species. 30% - Scholarly activities to include teaching and research
Tenure Track/ Tenure Position Requirements 50% - Provide clinical expertise and deliver emergency and critical care services for all species. 50% - Scholarly activities to include teaching and research
Minimum Qualifications (all academic appointments): Assistant Professor: DVM or equivalent & must have successfully completed a residency training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (ECVECC)
Associate Professor: DVM or equivalent with five years of related teaching/research/clinical experience & must have successfully completed a residency training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (ECVECC)
Full Professor: DVM or equivalent with eight years of related teaching/research/clinical experience & must have successfully completed a residency training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (ECVECC)
Preferred Qualifications (all ranks & academic appointments): Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (ACVECC) Eligible for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society (EVECCS)
Special or Physical Qualifications (all ranks & academic appointments): Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Per LSU PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, sitting, bending, crawling, squatting, and/or twisting.
Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with LSU PS 67.
