About College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science, Colorado State University
As part of a Land Grant University, the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) has an integrated mission in education, research, and service. In fulfilling this mission, the objectives of the College are: 1) To maintain and enhance quality teaching programs in its undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs; 2) To promote scholarly excellence aimed at advancing the state of knowledge in biomedical research and translational research for animals and people; 3) To provide state-of-the-art patient care and diagnostic services that advance the standard of veterinary medical practice; 4) To provide post-graduate support of the profession through continuing education and consulting services; and 5) To provide outreach support to the community through public health and animal welfare initiatives. The College is committed to training the next generation of veterinarians and biomedical researchers to achieve the highest standards and to maintaining and advancing its international reputation.
The College contains four academic departments: Biomedical Sciences; Clinical Sciences; Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences; and Microbiology, Immunology, and ...Pathology. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories, and Equine Sciences program are part of the College’s organizational structure. The Dean of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences oversees a total budget of approximately $120 million a year, of which two major components are approximately $56 million a year generated from external research and $37 million contained in instructional budgets. The College is supported by over 10,000 alumni and is committed to serving the needs of the state and region in providing high-quality programs in education, clinical service, and outreach. The College is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and currently is ranked third in veterinary medicine by US News & World Report. The College leads two of the University’s Supercluster multidisciplinary alliances (Cancer Research, Infectious Disease) and contains three of the University’s Programs of Research and Scholarly Excellence (Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory; Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Neurosciences Program; and Musculoskeletal Research Program). The College’s research portfolio maintains strong veterinary and human biomedical research programs.
