The Founding Lead Veterinarian is the founding and lead veterinarian for Southern Veterinary Partners’ de novo (new) hospital in Austin, Texas. This is a rare opportunity to build a veterinary hospital in partnership with SVP, one of the most successful operators of veterinary hospitals in the United States. The Founding Lead Veterinarian will have the opportunity to vest into hospital ownership incentives as he/she successfully builds the practice, adds teammates, and builds a raving customer base for the hospital. SVP’s best-in-class support functions will assist the Founding Lead Veterinarian every step of the way including with hospital design & equipment purchase, recruitment, marketing, medical and operational support, analytics, and other administrative support functions. The ideal candidate is an experienced veterinarian, has strong leadership & interpersonal skills, and is passionate about high quality of care and customer experience. In addition to physical exams, the ideal candidate is comfortable providing (and teaching associate veterinarians) general surgery and dentistry medical procedures. The Founding Lead Veterinarian will have the opportunity to be a key decision maker in site selection, design, and planning leading up to hospital launch in 2022/2023.
The primary responsibilities of the Founding Lead Veterinarian include:
Building strong client-first and collaborative practice culture
Hiring of hospital manager, veterinary technician, and other hospital support staff in partnership with SVP talent acquisition and operational support teams
Delivery of patient care and ongoing evaluation and management of clinical practices
Ensure that all doctors (i) explain physical examination findings and communicate to the client a diagnosis of the pet’s problems, (ii) generate and present a treatment plan for the pet to the client, and (iii) educate clients on preventative health care, including vaccines and appropriate nutritional products
Ensure that staff maintain client/patient medical/surgical records and make certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols
Monitor associate doctor performance and production
Stay up-to-date with new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine, attend Continuing Education meetings
Assist in the development of the paraprofessional team to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care and exceptional client service
Ensure that all staff treat every client like family and each patient like their own pet
Building a highly satisfied and raving local customer base
Partnering with the hospital manager in managing hospital financial performance
Positively represent the hospital in the professional community and to the general public

Requirements:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited university
Licensure in good standing to practice in the state in which the applicant is applying
4+ years of experience as a veterinarian required
Leadership/management experience
Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, friendly attitude
Have the ability to lead the team through a variety of cases
Respect for and willingness to work with clients and their pets
Compassionate team player who can uphold great reputation with clients
A commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine, upholding the veterinary code of ethics
Must be proficient in surgery
Compensation & Ownership Incentive:
Base compensation structure is an attractive salary plus a production-based bonus
Ownership incentive shares equity appreciation of the hospital with the Founding Lead DVM (uncapped upside)
No initial investment required to participate in ownership incentive
Ownership incentive value estimate to be $750k+ by year five of hospital operations
