Spy Coast Farm specializes in breeding and development of top quality performance horses on 800 acres in Lexington, adjacent to the Kentucky Horse Park. Under the mentorship of 2 resident veterinarians, our externs will gain experience in all facets of the equine industry from breeding and foaling to developing and caring for the young sport horse.
With over 300 horses on the property year round, externs will gain experience and knowledge in herd health and preventative care, Thoroughbred and Sport Horse reproduction, young horse training and development and the lameness and therapies that go with it. We offer import quarantine for mares and stallions for Contagious Equine Metritis and USDA export quarantine services. Externs will have the opportunity to work with referral cases in our state of the art Rehabilitation and Fitness Center and become versed in the use of various treatment modalities including Cold Water Spa, Aqua-Treadmill, dry treadmill, RLT Laser, PEMF, Cold laser, Equinosis Lameness Locator, and Shockwave machine.
Applicant must be in good standing at accredited veterinary school and on path to graduating with a veterinary medical degree. Must submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, and at least one letter of recommendation with the application. Must have a valid drivers license and personal vehicle for transportation.
