The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Trust is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to join our leadership team headquartered in Schaumburg, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago. The AVMA Trust provides professional liability insurance, life and disability coverage, financial services, as well as other important benefits to the 93,000+ members of the AVMA. Structured to work for its members, AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the veterinary profession. AVMA’s mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.
Partnering with the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer is responsible for driving the trust’s operating capabilities to enhance and delight members, focusing on member acquisition, onboarding, retention and overall experience. The goal of the COO position is to secure the functionality of business to drive extensive and sustainable growth. They will also manage company costs, and bottom line growth to help deliver on timely and accurate financial performance reports.
The COO will also manage employee experience and assess and implement improved processes, technology solutions and other improvements as needed. Responsibilities include spearheading strategies to facilitate growth, drive and monitor financial results and other initiatives. In addition, the COO will develop and integrate staffing programs designed to attract the highest caliber of talent while satisfying the needs of our clients.
The role may include approximately 20% travel.

BA/BS degree in Business Administration or Finance
15 years of related business experience; insurance experience is a plus; DVM and/or MBA a plus
Knowledge/experience with the veterinary profession highly desirable
Proven track record of outstanding performance
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Must have strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Must have experience presenting in front of large groups
Strong time management and analytical skills
