| Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists is offering the unique opportunity of a 3-year emergency and critical care residency outside of the match program, scheduled to start July 1, 2017. Ideal candidates are highly motivated individuals with exceptional skills in communication, collaboration, and leadership. |
The residency is a standardized program, approved by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) since 1991, preparing individuals for submission of credentials for the ACVECC board certification examination. The large caseload offers many opportunities for the resident to gain surgical experience as a primary surgeon (with supervision) for emergency patients. The ACVECC faculty supervisors are on site to provide supervision and guidance on a daily basis. The resident will gain intensive experience in emergency stabilization and diagnostic procedures, medical and surgical definitive care of the critical patient, critical care monitoring, and nutritional support. The training experience also includes time off for specialty rotations to meet ACVECC credential requirements.
Supervising faculty provide over 43 years of combined experience in the specialty of emergency and critical care medicine. Our practice includes board certified specialists in emergency and critical care (3), surgery (4), internal medicine (3), oncology (1), dentistry (1), dermatology (1), rehabilitation and acupuncture (1), and neurology (1), in addition to individuals who are residency-trained in emergency and critical care (1) and surgery (1). Off-site consulting staff includes a radiologist and an ophthalmologist. Members of our team include certified VTS (ECC) (Anesthesia) technicians and additional highly skilled technical staff. The faculty members enjoy teaching and will devote considerable time to the house staff seminar series. Daily clinical rounds, faculty presentations, house staff presentations, journal club discussions, resident projects, and discussions pertaining to client relations and business practice management and are integral parts of this learning experience.
