SoBran, Inc. is seeking an Animal Care Technician III to serve at our Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland location.
OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of an Animal Care Technician III for the MRICD-PHC, Animal Care and Research Support Services contract. This position reports to the Animal Care Technician Supervisor. Responsible for all activities required for the proper care and maintenance of research animals within VMSB.
Description of Duties:
Understand and follows all SOP’s and Quality Assurance Standards
Participate in weekly technical or SOP training
Receive, examine, transfer, identify, and properly house incoming animal shipments according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Perform daily animal health surveillance checks and report any abnormal conditions of either the animals or the animal room environment to supervisory staff
Provide food and water to animals following SOPs or approved protocols and verify that NPO requests are being followed
Perform animal husbandry duties as assigned
Dispose of animal carcasses following SOPs
Restrain, handle, and manipulate various animal species
Understand and follow SOPs, safety procedures, and quality assurance guidelines for animal care at all levels of biohazard containment
Report any abnormal conditions of the animal rooms, animal facility or immediate vicinity to supervisory staff
Maintain all records to include but not limited to log sheets and room records
Facilitate customer relations between military, government, and contractor personnel in regards to animal husbandry issues
Sanitize and decontaminate all areas of the facility
Dispose of waste from the facility following appropriate SOPs
Maintain and repair animal caging and support equipment
Assist with receipt, stocking and maintenance of all supply inventories
Maintain clean and organized work and personal areas
Able to navigate Work Order system and computer programs
Perform all functions of cage wash operations
Provide technical assistance for care and procedural support
Operate several government vehicles (clean driving record required)
Assist in training and mentoring of other animal care technicians
Assume responsibilities in the absence of the Animal Care Technician Supervisor
Perform duties on weekends in the absence of a Veterinary Technician
Perform all other duties, as assigned
Schedule Requirements: All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned. Arrive and depart work at their scheduled time Mon-Fri; shifts include 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. This position will be required to work on weekends and holidays as scheduled. The weekend/holiday hours are from 7:00 am-1:00 pm. In addition this position may be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed.
**Qualified candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a secret government clearance. Candidates with an active clearance are preferred**
Required Experience: Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. Able to lift 50 lbs. Able to wear PPE including respirators. Capable of maintaining and documenting logs in accordance with SOPs.
Required Education: Must have a high school diploma; must attain certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) within 1 year of eligibility.
