SoBran is seeking a Veterinary Technician II to serve at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland (LARC 7).
OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Veterinary Technician II for the NIH, Vaccine Research Center (VRC) Laboratory Animal Research Contract (LARC).
This position’s responsibilities include:
Understand and follow all SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards
Perform basic and advanced technical procedures (e.g. injections, blood, mucus and tissue collection, biopsies, BAL’s etc.) in support of VRC research studies
Assist with specialized procedures (e.g. surgeries, apheresis, necropsies etc.)
Monitor animal health and communicate abnormalities with the VRC veterinarian and scientific staff for 200+ non-human primates
Assist veterinarian with examinations and procedures, and alert veterinarian of emergencies or animal problems
Provide pre and post monitoring of vital signs (respiration, heart rate, body temperature, pulse, etc.) of animals scheduled for technical procedures
Maintain laboratory equipment and technical support areas
Always think safety first when performing daily duties
Perform all technical procedures in accordance with federal and facility policies
Work independently and interact with all levels of the organization
Report personnel problems to Project Manager
Adhere to directions given by Project Manager
Maintain accurate records of technical procedures
Participate in weekly staff meetings
Perform all other duties as assigned by management
Schedule Requirements: All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:00am and depart at 3:30pm M-F. In addition you will be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed.
Must meet one of the following requirements:
B.S. degree in biology, animal science, or similar discipline preferred
Associate Arts degree in Veterinary Technology
Experience working with animals in biomedical research, preferable, one year can be as animal care technician (husbandry), or companion animal practice and be eligible to take the LATG certification.
