SoBran BioScience is recruiting for a dynamic Attending Veterinarian position. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA and has responsibilities that cover locations in Baltimore, MD and near Greensboro, NC. Travel is expected approximately 2-3 times per month. This person is expected to maintain compliance with laboratory animal care standards and regulatory requirements; ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, guidelines, and policies to maintain AAALAC accreditation of the animal care and use programs and facilities; serves on IACUC and IBC Committees and attends IACUC/IBC meetings.
Duties will include:
Provide veterinary medical diagnostic, surgical, and/or treatment services within the animal facilities, including oversight of quarantine procedures
Provide 24 hours a day, 7 days-a-week coverage for veterinary care (except for when back-up care is arranged for) for all animals housed in the animal facilities
Serve on the IACUC, including assisting in education of IACUC members, as well as review of all protocols
Perform semi-annual health exams and physicals for all regulated species
Participate on a rotational basis in the weekend and holiday veterinary coverage roster
Maintain and perform Quality Assurance on controlled substance logs and animal medical records
Assist with the process of importing and quarantining/isolating animals
Understand current SOP’s of the programs served and assist in developing SOP’s relative to operations
Assist with investigator facility orientations
Provide assistance to assure compliance with regulatory agencies and AAALACi
Advise the laboratory animal program’s expenses and budget with coordination of the business offices
Supervise animal care staff; conduct performance evaluations, and ensure completion of competencies of department staff as necessary
Develop and provide training and guidance to animal users and animal technicians in animal procedures, anesthetics, euthanasia, and other matters as required
Develop proposals for enhancing the laboratory animal program, animal facilities, and infrastructure including the development of new and revision of current Standards of Operations and improving operational efficiencies
Perform other duties as assigned
Demonstrated analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Demonstrated experience with the regulatory aspects of animal welfare is strongly preferred
Proven record of management of an animal research program is strongly preferred
Experience with both non-human primate as well as other USDA covered species husbandry and with rodent colonies is required
Must be licensed in the US and be eligible for PA state license
