St. Matthew's University, a privately funded institution located in the Cayman Islands, is seeking an Associate Dean for the School of Veterinary Medicine. The veterinary school was founded in 2005 and is a small, growing program committed to the success of its students via exceptional teaching, small class sizes, and a dedicated and highly skilled faculty and staff.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Chancellor, the Associate Dean of Basic Sciences is responsible for the academic excellence of the first seven semesters (three years) of the veterinary school curriculum. The duties and responsibilities of the position include the following:
• Hiring, retention, mentoring and management of faculty and staff • Improving educational effectiveness o Implementing rigorous evaluation and outcome assessments o Enhancing effectiveness of faculty via evaluation and mentoring • Recommending and/or appointing faculty members to standing committees of the University and insuring that all standing committees meet on a regular basis, follow protocol, and submit regular written reports • Participating in the admissions process • Overseeing the health and welfare of students • Coordinating the teaching of clinical skills/knowledge with the Associate Dean of Clinical Sciences • Assisting in the oversight of academic and research policies • Providing strong leadership in professional attitudes and behaviors of students, faculty and staff • Working with staff members to assist in the operation and maintenance of the Cayman campus • Interacting with other institutional departments including Admissions, Human Resources, and Finance • Helping to develop a yearly operating budget for the veterinary school • Participating in the student promotion process • Teaching a modest course load
Minimum Requirements: • An earned DVM or equivalent degree • Prior successful experience as a Dean, Associate/Assistant Dean, or Department Head of a veterinary school • Proven record of academic program development • Strong record of teaching and scholarship • Proven record in recruiting, retaining and developing a successful faculty and staff • Strong experience and commitment to student success/support • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with fellow deans, other institutional departments, central administration and all university constituencies • Demonstrated budget management skills • Proven record of high personal integrity and ethical standards
Preferred Qualifications: • Additional advanced degree and/or training in related fields • Experience with veterinary school accreditation • Qualifications to meet the rank of Professor

About St. Matthew's University
The School of Veterinary Medicine at St. Matthew's University admits students three times per year (September, January and May). The school has three semesters per year with all courses taught in each semester of the year. Students spend the first seven semesters at the main campus on Grand Cayman and complete their final year of clinical sciences education at one of our affiliate Schools of Veterinary Medicine in the United States.
