The Medical Affairs Marketing Manager is the technical, medical liaison aligned with the commercial marketing team, and liaison between IDEXX and the veterinary community. Proactively support our current and future Chemistry and Hematology (both in-clinic and reference laboratory) offerings by presenting medical subjects to R&D, marketing and product teams and cultivating relationships with thought leaders, universities and key customers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical, medical support internally and externally by performing one or more of the following.
Provide medical advice to the CAG Marketing team and sales force trainers.
Give lectures and seminars on topics related to in-clinic instrumentation, reference laboratory offerings and the IDEXX Diagnostic Advantage.
Travel with sales force and distributors to provide medical education.
Develop, deliver and arrange National Trade Show education programs at key meetings.
Provide medical advice to R&D teams in both recognizing and assisting the development of new diagnostics and managing projects.
Assist/participate in/oversee Technical Advisory Boards and Summits.
Serve as medical advisor on New Product Development Core teams.
Establish and maintain working relationships with key veterinary opinion leaders (KOL).
Assist / manage clinical trials and KOL studies including coordinating efforts with R&D and marketing to help establish medically relevant and commercially useful trials for IDEXX products and services. Facilitate study design, implementation, tracking, and communications. Assist with data analysis and manuscript.
Create and/or support the creation of peer-reviewed publications.
Assist/responsible for/oversee KOL studies and related expense budgets.
Provide veterinary backup for technical service team and/or sales professionals. This may include calling customers to answer questions/concerns and/or providing sales professionals with information or directing them to the appropriate IDEXX resource.
Provide tactical and/or strategic marketing support by performing one or more of the following.
Consult on the medical message and positioning of our products to help drive the strategy and tactics for our market and future diagnostic products.
Support the medical message and positioning of our products including writing technical articles and reviewing promotional materials.
Support our Sales Training Department and our reference laboratory organization by creating written materials, presentations, and conducting training sessions as appropriate.
Provide medical and market input on marketing and sales materials.
Assist/drive strategy for the growth of specified products or franchises through medical insight and initiatives.
Assist with key Medical components of the marketing plan, consulting with commercial marketing for medical consistency and/or gaps.
Create marketing opportunities with other Animal Health industry players.
EDUCATION:
DVM degree or country equivalent.
Board certification or advanced training preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Work experience at a small animal private practice and/or university clinic.
Commercial marketing, sales, New Product Development and/or Research & Development experience preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
In-depth veterinary medicine knowledge expertise including knowledge of diagnostic testing, current treatment recommendations/options, monitoring protocols and clinical pathology (training, experience, publications, professional accreditation, etc).
Solid marketing skills – the right individual could transition to a product manager position
Ability to balance medical and technical knowledge with commercial sales and marketing efforts
Strong, persuasive, communications skills both verbal (includes presentation skills) and written (correspondence, internal/published technical pieces)
Excellent interpersonal skills & ability to convince/motivate a wide range of personalities (eg practitioners, academics, sales people, etc)
Strategic thinker with the ability to partner with IDEXX business leads to help design successful marketing plans and tactics
Organizational skills - time management, multi-tasking, and coordinating others.
High level of self-motivation – ability to work with minimal supervision.
Proficient in MS Office.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Generally, 25% travel, but could be up to 50% during Fall and Winter.
